Meet Kim Montgomery
OK – I can’t help it, I have to share with you some of my story about how I started making candles.
I am a mother of three (two boys and a girl) and with my husband that makes four kids. Every day I run around between work, driving kids to school, after school activities, picking up after “everyone”, shopping and still finding time in the day to put my gourmet food offerings on the table. Phew.
There are no “wise-cracks” in the house about my cooking. Everyone knows they could be the “next” family chef! There are no volunteers. How surprising, nobody wants the job.
“Make fun of my cooking and your food
just might turn into a candle.”
One time I surprised them with my now famous…. brownie candles. Imagine their surprise! There is a new found respect for both my skills in candle making and my cooking.
After so many years of having “no” time for myself, I have found a way to bring candle making into my routine. It is fun because I have found my daughter and sons like getting in on the action too. This is especially true around the holidays when we get together to make up special batches for around the house and gifts for friends and family.
It all started when I was in a gift shop about eight years ago. The shop owner told me that one of her customers made the candle I was holding. That did it. I wanted to know more about how she made that candle.
The store owner said to me,
“Why don’t you make your own candles?”
I was curious about the process. The next thing you know I was reading all about the techniques of picking waxes, wicks and molds. It wasn’t long before I told myself that “Hey, I can do this”!
I proved to myself I not only could do it, I could also teach others how to make their own homemade candles for any occasion.
There is a certain feeling of pride when you touch a match to a candle you made with your own hands.
“I have always liked how
a candle glows
and makes a house into a home.”
If you love candles, but have been reluctant to try to make them yourself, you have found the right website.

when you light a candle
that was made with your own hands!”
